3rd Annual Paubox “Mahalo To The Bay” Includes Donation In Memoriam of Mayor Lee

To celebrate the Christmas season, email security startup Paubox continued their tradition of giving out a taste of Hawaii to Bay Area residents. But this year they added to the giving with a $500 donation to Project Homeless Connect in memoriam of Mayor Ed Lee.

To celebrate the Christmas season, email security startup Paubox continued their tradition of giving out a taste of Hawaii to Bay Area residents. But this year they added to the giving with a $500 donation to Project Homeless Connect in memoriam of Mayor Ed Lee.

Founded in Hawaii, Paubox relocated to San Francisco in 2015. Since then, the startup has given away Hawaii food staples to Bay Area residents. This year they gave away 1,000 spam musubis near the Powell Street BART station to celebrate their upcoming 1,000 customer milestone.

Mayor Lee also had a tie to the islands through his connection to students from Hawaii during his time at UC Berkley. He continued the connection over the years, speaking at last year’s Hawaii Chamber of Commerce Northern California (HCCNC) Gala.

Paubox Founder CEO Hoala Greevy recollects meeting Mayor Lee at the Gala. “I remember him being cordial, quiet, friendly. It was great to see how down to earth he was as he made sure to spend time with everyone in the room.”

The donation to Project Homeless Connect came from a suggestion made by the HCCNC in recognition of Mayor Lee’s effort to resolve the soaring rental and home ownership costs and regional housing shortage.

Project Homeless Connect’s mission is to connect San Franciscans experiencing homelessness with the care they need to move forward. The organization strengthens and utilizes collaborations with city agencies, businesses, and organizations to provide comprehensive holistic services, both at service events and through continued care, for those who are at risk of becoming homeless, are currently homeless or are transitioning from shelter to permanent housing.

Spam musubi is a staple in Hawaii, and is a popular snack and lunch food composed of grilled Spam on top of rice, wrapped together with nori (dried seaweed) in the tradition of Japanese omusubi.
